Hodthorpe, Derbyshire born right half David Jones played for Worksop Town in 1933 before joining Second Division Bury in August 1934, making his Football League debut at Brentford the next month. He played both sides of the Second World War for Bury, making his last appearance of 271 on Boxing Day 1949 (despite losing 6 years to World War Two), scoring 15 goals, his entire League career at Gigg Lane spent in the Second Division.
