Hoxton, London born right half Fred Jewhurst began his football career with Northfleet United after the end of the First World War and from there signed for Charlton Athletic, for whom he made his Football League debut against Gillingham in September 1921. A fringe player at The Valley, he made 9 appearances over three seasons for Charlton Athletic before a move to Southend United in February 1924, where he was a first team regular for three seasons, making 127 appearances for The Shrimpers. He moved back to London to join Clapton Orient in the 1927 close season but played only one match against Manchester City in November 1927 before a move to Kent League club Dartford in 1928, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
