Linktown, Kirkcaldy, Fife born right back Bill Inglis played junior football for Inverkeithing United in 1912 and Kirkcaldy United in 1913 before joining Scottish League club Raith Rovers in 1914. He remained with The Rovers for the next decade, and was part of their 1921-22 team that finished third in the Scottish Championship behind The Old Firm, until in the summer of 1924 when he was signed by Second Division Sheffield Wednesday.

He made his Football League debut at Derby County that September and played 31 games during his single season at Hillsborough before joining Manchester United in the 1925 close season, where he was a fringe player, scoring once in 14 appearances over the next five seasons.
