Description

Bolton, Lancashire born inside right Harry Hird joined Horwich RMI before the outbreak of the First World War and after the conflict he signed for Second Division club Bury in June 1919, making his Football League debut against Stockport County that September and top scoring for The Shakers with 14 goals in their 1919-20 season as they finished fifth in the division. However the goals became less frequent and in May 1922 he moved to Blackpool after 20 goals in 65 appearances for Bury.

He made only 4 appearances for The Seasiders that autumn before returning to Horwich RMI in 1923. He returned to Football League action joining Third Division (North) club New Brighton in 1924, and his two seasons on the Wirral saw him score 3 times in 13 first team appearances before he once again returned to non league football with Horwich RMI in 1926, also playing subsequently for Rossendale United in 1929 and Burscough Rangers in 1930 before a fourth and final spell with Horwich RMI in 1931 before his eventual retirement.
