Description
Centre forward George Hay was born in Edinburgh and signed for Third Lanark from local club Newtongrange Star in the late 1920’s, soon establishing himself as a leading goalscorer for the Thirds, indeed in 1934-35 he scored a club record 46 goals in a season in the Scottish Second Division as The Warriors won the Second Division Championship. Described at the time as “Elusive as an eel, he presents a ticklish problem to the ‘third back’ pivot by the way in which he wanders to either wing… George is noted for his snappy shooting with both feet”, he signed for Queen of the South in 1937 and played for them until the Second World War.
