Description

Seaton Delaval, Northumberland born centre forward Alf Hardy began his football career with Cramlington Rovers before the First World War and after the War he joined North Eastern League club Ashington in 1919 before being signed by new Third Division (South) entrant Watford in August 1920. However he didn’t get a look in at Vicarage Road during 1920-21 and returned to the North East where he joined Third Division (North) club Durham City in May 1921, making his Football League debut and only appearance for The Citizens at former club Ashington, by now themselves playing in the Football League.

Hardy joined Southern League club Pontypridd later in 1921 and played in Wales for Porth Athletic before returning to Football League action with Barrow in June 1922, scoring 8 goals in 16 appearances for The Bluebirds during a single season at Holker Street, including a hat-trick in a win at Ashington in December 1922. He then had a lengthy non league career joining non league Mold Town in 1923 and played for Scotswood for five years from 1924 before joining Vono Sports in 1929 and finally playing for Truro City in 1934 before his eventual retirement.
