Description

Hebburn, County Durham born right back Billy Richardson joined Jarrow after the First World War had ended in 1919, playing for Wallsend in 1920 before joining Stockport County in May 1921, for whom he made his Football League debut against Barrow that September. In his first season Stockport won the Third Division (North) Championship and he was a first team regular for four seasons thereafter in the Second Division, being ever present in 1924-25, before leaving The Hatters after their relegation in 1926 to join non league Poole having made 165 appearances.

In November 1927 he returned to the Football League signing for North East club Ashington, making 3 appearances that winter before moving to Durham City in January 1928, for whom he scored his only career goal, a penalty in a 3-2 victory over Bradford City that April. He played 14 times for Durham before returning to Washington in August 1928, appearing in a further 10 matches before joining non league Craghead United in 1929, subsequently playing for Crookhall Colliery Welfare in 1930 before his eventual retirement.
