Description
Garforth, Leeds, Yorkshire born centre half Frank Hancock began his football career with Castleford & Allerton United and spent 1928-29 on the books of Bradford Park Avenue without making a first team appearance, from where he signed for Southern League club Peterborough & Fletton United in 1929. Hancock joined Second Division club Millwall in 1930, making his Football League debut against Plymouth Argyle that November, and at The Den he proved a model of consistency, holding his place for the rest of the season and being an ever present during their 1931-32 campaign, missing only 2 matches during 1932-33.
However he lost his place in March 1934 as Millwall suffered relegation, staying a further season at The Den before he joined Cheshire County League club Wigan Athletic in 1935 after 5 goals in 170 appearances for The Lions, but he returned to Millwall in the summer of 1936 and played 6 further matches, including two early round FA Cup ties in Millwall’s run to the 1937 FA Cup semi final, and stayed at Millwall in 1937-38 although without playing another first team match, before joining Yorkshire League club Goole Town in 1938, where his career was effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War.
