Description

Bargeddie, Lanarkshire born left back Jimmy Hamilton started his football career with Vale of Clyde in 1920 and joined St Mirren in April 1922. He made 84 appearances for The Buddies and such was his form that he was selected for The Scottish League, playing in a 1-1 draw with The Football League at Ibrox in March 1924, before he transferred to Glasgow Rangers in September 1925.

He made 40 appearances over the next two seasons before being signed by Second Division Blackpool in September 1928. He made his Football League debut for Harry Evans’ side at home to Bristol City on 15th September 1928, six games into their 1928-29 campaign. He made a further 24 League appearances that season as the Tangerines finished eighth in Division Two.

Hamilton started the first three League games of the 1929-30 season, which proved to be the club’s first and, to date, only Championship that saw them promoted to the top flight for the first time. However they were his final appearances for the club and he joined Barrow in October 1929. He stayed a year at Houlker Street scoring twice in 46 appearances and making his final appearance at the end of November 1930 before joining Armadale in December 1930, subsequently joining Galston in 1931 before his retirement from professional football.
