Paisley, Renfrewshire born right back Frederick Grocott began his football career with Newcastle based junior club Walker Celtic in 1921 and he came to the attention of Third Division (North) club Lincoln City, who signed him in the summer of 1922, Grocott making his Football League debut against Bradford Park Avenue that October. He made 17 appearances for The Imps during his debut season and followed up with 26 appearances during 1923-24, but he lost his place in their first team in December 1924 and played only once more the following April before leaving professional football after 61 appearances for Lincoln City.
