Inside right Archibald Gillies was signed by St Mirren from junior club Duntocher Hibs in May 1921 and soon became a regular for St Mirren over the next six years. However despite playing in the first four matches of their Scottish Cup run, he didn’t play in their 1926 Scottish Cup Final triumph, when Alan Gebbie played at inside right, and by the time he signed for Dumbarton in October 1927 he had scored 27 goals in 167 appearances for The Buddies. In two seasons at Boghead Park he scored 3 goals in 64 appearances for The Sons, but was released by Dumbarton in the 1929 close season.
