Goalkeeper William Stevenson had played Scottish junior football for Strathclyde before emigrating to America in the mid-1920’s to play in the short lived soccer boom. Unlike many he returned to Scotland in 1929 and joined Third Lanark, where he stayed a season before signing for Clyde in 1930. He remained Clyde’s goalkeeper for much of the 1930’s. Stevenson was described as “a most consistent club man” who as a goalkeeper “is very quick of eye and ideally built.”
