Description

Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire born right back Dick Gaskell started his football career playing local football for Waterloo United and also for his regimental team during the First World War that won three medals. Whilst in the Army he put in a few appearances with Grimsby Town in the Midland League and after being demobbed, local Cheshire County League club Ashton National club, moving to join Third Division (South) club Exeter City in June 1921, where he made his Football League debut against Charlton Athletic in September 1921. He played 14 League matches between September and February before moving to non league Torquay United in 1922. His later career is uncertain.
