Hednesford, Staffordshire born right back Bob Finch began his football career with Hednesford Primitives in 1923 and played for Hednesford Town in 1924 before signing for First Division club West Bromwich Albion in 1925, making his Football League debut against Leicester City in February 1926. He made 5 appearances in his debut season and played only a single match the following season, but from the start of 1927-28 he was a first team regular, missing only ten matches over the next three seasons. However in 1930 he was relegated to the fringes, and played only 8 matches in Albion’s promotion and FA Cup double winning season of 1930-31.

Over the following five seasons he remained on the fringe, playing only 31 further matches, and he wasn’t involved in their 1935 FA Cup Final appearance. He returned to the side in September 1936, and spent two seasons as a regular in The Baggies’ first eleven, however when they were relegated at the end of the 1937-38 season he was released, and after 234 appearances for West Bromwich Albion he joined Swansea Town. However he failed to make the first eleven at The Vetch Field, and re-joined Hednesford Town in 1939, playing for Tamworth after the Second World War before hanging up his boots.
