Glasgow born outside right Robert (known as Roy) Faulkner was playing Scottish junior football prior to the First World War for St Anthony’s and Maryhill but after the resumption of peacetime football he signed for Blackburn Rovers in 1919, making his Football League debut at Chelsea in February 1920. He played 9 matches over six weeks before losing his place in April, and joined Queen’s Park Rangers that summer. He played in Rangers’ inaugural Football League match against Watford in August 1920 and made 52 appearances over the next two seasons, scoring once, before a move to the North East with South Shields in the summer of 1922, for whom he made 20 appearances in 1922-23. He then went to play in the nascent North American and Canadian soccer leagues in 1923, playing for at least 4 clubs in the US and Canada over the following seasons, and also played 3 international matches for Canada against The United States in 1925-26.
