Darlaston, Staffordshire born centre half Joseph Evans began his football career with Darlaston, from where he signed for First Division club West Bromwich Albion in 1925, making his Football League debut at West Ham United in March 1926, his only appearance of his debut season. He made 5 further appearances in 1926-27, which ended in relegation for The Baggies, and in the Second Division Evans established himself as first choice centre half, scoring 8 times in a further 83 appearances for Albion before losing his place in March 1930, playing only once more in April that year before becoming a reserve team player and then leaving the club and professional football without returning to first team action.
