Description

Nottingham born right back Jack Earp joined Nottingham Forest in 1890 prior to their arrival in The Football League. He joined Everton in 1891 making his Football League debut at Darwen that November, but returned to Nottingham Forest in 1892 after 11 games for The Toffees during 1891-92, playing in Forest’s inaugural League fixture at Everton in September 1892, incidentally the first ever League match at Goodison Park, making a further 15 appearances for his hometown club.

He joined Sheffield Wednesday in the 1893 close season, and it was here that he spent most of his career, becoming club captain and captaining them to victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 1896 FA Cup Final at The Crystal Palace by 2 goals to 1. He played seven seasons for The Wednesday but lost his place after Wednesday’s relegation in 1899, playing only 5 times as Wednesday won the Second Division Championship, and in the summer of 1900, after 8 goals in 174 appearances he joined Stockport County, where he played a final season scoring twice in 17 appearances before his retirement.
