Darlaston, Staffordshire born Stephen Dunn served with The Gloucestershire Regiment during the First World War, playing Army football, and after the conflict he was signed by First Division club Arsenal as an amateur in May 1919, turning professional three months later. He made his Football League debut at Everton that October in a 3-2 win. He played 17 times in his first season in north London but was reduced to a bit-part role in the following two campaigns playing only 10 matches as understudy to Tim Williamson, of those only one came in 1921-22 when he played in a 2-1 win over Newcastle United at Highbury in February 1922.

Taking over from Williamson, Dunn played 17 times in the 1922-23 campaign between September and December 1922 before falling out of favour completely. He made his final senior appearance on Christmas Day 1922, losing his place to Jock Robson after a pair of 4 goal defeats, and he stayed at Highbury until 1925 before leaving professional football after just 44 senior appearances.

NB This photograph was taken at Highbury on 30th September 1922 when Jimmy Dimmock’s two goals gave Tottenham a 2-0 win, the other player is Spurs’ Jimmy Seed.
