Description

Glasgow born inside forward Hyam Dimmer played for Strathclyde in 1933 and Kilsyth Rangers in 1934, and had a trial with Glasgow Rangers in 1935 before joining Ayr United the same year. Described at the time as “long striding” and “loose limbed”, with “a flair for doing the unexpected”, it was noted of him at the time that “at first his play wasn’t appreciated at Somerset Park when he joined from Kilsyth Rangers but the fans revel in it now”. Unfortunately like so many other players of the day, the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 robbed Dimmer of his best years, although he guested for several clubs during the conflict.

After the Second World War he joined Third Division (South) club Aldershot in August 1946 and made his Football League debut for The Shots against Brighton in September 1946, scoring in a 1-3 home defeat. That would be his only goal in 7 appearances for Aldershot, and in May 1947 he joined Bristol City, for whom he appeared just once in April 1948 at Crystal Palace before retiring from the professional game.
