Description

Sunderland born inside right Billy Dodds began his football career with Sunderland Royal Rovers in 1904 and played for County Durham club Southwick in 1905 before joining Second Division Burslem Port Vale in June 1906, making his Football League debut against Leicester Fosse the same September, scoring in a 2-1 home defeat. Dodds scored 14 goals in 41 appearances, finishing as Vale’s second top goalscorer behind Billy Beats but only stayed a single season at the Cobridge Athletic Ground before signing for Oldham Athletic in June 1907.

Dodds scored on his Oldham debut as The Latics won 3-1 at Stoke that September, but after 3 goals in 13 appearances, 10 of which had been won, he lost his place at the end of November (perhaps due to injury) and didn’t regain it before a move to Irish League Linfield in the summer of 1908. His career after Linfield is uncertain.
