Description

Rotherham, Yorkshire born outside left George Dixon played for Kimberworth Old Boys before the First World War and after the War signed for Second Division Barnsley, making his Football League debut at Stoke in August 1919. He played 26 matches for Barnsley before moving to Third Division newcomers Norwich City in the summer of 1920, where he played in their inaugural League fixture in a 1-1 draw at Plymouth Argyle that August, and scored his only goal in 28 appearances during the campaign in a defeat at Brentford that October.

The following summer he returned to Yorkshire and to the Second Division when signed for his hometown club, Rotherham County, however after playing 19 matches in his first season at Millmoor, scoring his only goal in a 1-1 draw at Stoke in December 1921, he only played twice more the following season and left the club after their relegation at the end of 1922-23. He then moved to Midland League club Worksop Town, and played for outh Yorkshire Chemical Works in 1924, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
