Description

Rhu, Argyll born goalkeeper Matthew Dickie began his football career with Renton in 1889 and signed for Glasgow Rangers in 1896, making his Scottish League debut against St Mirren in a 5-1 home win at Ibrox on 15th August 1896. Dickie made 175 Scottish League and Cup appearances as well as 100 appearances in other competitions such as The Glasgow Cup and Inter City League. He played his last League match in February 1904 and during his career he won The Scottish League four times, The Scottish Cup three times and also The Glasgow Cup five times.

He first represented Scotland in a 5-1 win over Ireland at Ibrox in March 1897, winning a second cap in the same fixture exactly two years later as Scotland won emphatically 9-1 at Celtic Park. His final cap came in a 5-2 win over Wales at Pittodrie in February 1900. In between he played once for The Scottish League when they beat The Football League 2-1 at Villa Park in April 1898.

In 1904 he joined Clyde and remained with The Bully Wee until his retirement.
