Description

Lingdale, Yorkshire born goalkeeper Jack Curnow began his football career with Pease & Partners in 1929 and played for South Bank East End in 1930 and Whitby United in 1931 before joining First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers, making his Football League debut at Chelsea in December 1935 and playing 8 matches for Wolves before the end of the season. He moved to Second Division Blackpool in 1936 but didn’t feature in their first team during 1936-37 as they won promotion to the First Division, and Curnow moved on to Tranmere Rovers in the 1937 close season. He made 34 appearances for Tranmere as they won the Third Division (North) Championship in 1938, although they were immediately relegated in their first season in the Second Division, Curnow making 22 further appearances before being transferred to Hull City in the 1939 close season. The Second World War intervened in September 1939 and effectively ended Curnow’s career after only 2 appearances for The Tigers, and after the War he returned to Tranmere Rovers’ books but made no further appearances before his retirement.
