Description
Welsh footballer William Thomas Butler was born in 1872 and played for Druids FC of The Combination League, a team based in Ruabon near Wrexham, which won The Welsh Cup in 1898 and 1899, most probably with Butler among the team members leading to his international recognition. He was capped twice by his country, both games being in February 1900, against Scotland and Ireland, scoring once on his debut in a 5-2 defeat against Scotland at Pittodrie. In the other match Wales beat Ireland 2-0 at The Oval, Llandudno. He may also have played for Wrexham, although little is known of his football career. This image was published in 1900.
