Brampton Bierlow, Rotherham born goalkeeper Mike Brannan joined Dearne Valley Old Boys in 1926 and played for Rotherham Road, Wombwell and Denaby United before joining First Division Arsenal in 1933, where he didn’t get a first team opportunity, moving to Hull City soon thereafter where he also didn’t play for the first eleven. In 1934 he joined Barnsley, making his Football League debut at Norwich City in March 1935 spending 2 seasons as understudy to Tom Ellis and making 5 appearances in total, before a move to Notts County in 1937 where he understudied George Blyth, playing 3 times in 1937-38. He later played for non league Grantham and Peterborough United after the Second World War.
