Locally born and aged around 18 at the time of the photograph, Raymond Braddow’s father, Valance Braddow, had won the Military Medal during the First World War and Raymond joined Nottingham Forest shortly before League football was abandoned immediately after the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, during which he served in The Royal Navy. After the War he played for Linby Colliery and was known to be there in the 1949-50 season in the year they won the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup, before his playing retirement.
