Description

Larkhall, Lanarkshire born winger Peter Bennie played for Larkhall Thistle in 1919 and Bellshill Athletic in 1920 before joining Royal Albert in 1921, moving to Albion Rovers in 1922. In 1923 he joined First Division Burnley making his Football League debut at Notts County that August, and playing in Notts’ losing 1924 FA Cup semi final team, beaten 3-0 by Aston Villa at Bramall Lane.

Described as “one of the smallest men in the first class game… what he lacks in inches he makes up for in pluck”, after a single season at Turf Moor, scoring 7 goals in 43 appearances for The Clarets he joined Second Division Bradford City, scoring 3 times in 76 appearances for The Bantams over the next three seasons before retiring through injury in 1927.
