Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire born left half Hugh Boyd began his football career with Yoker Athletic before joining Glasgow Rangers in 1933, from where he was signed by West Ham United in June 1934. He didn’t make the first eleven at West Ham and joined non league Rhyl in 1935 before having a spell in Irish League football with Portadown later the same year. After an unsuccessful trial with Luton Town he joined Clapton Orient in October 1936, making his Football League debut in a defeat at Watford on 19th December 1936, also playing in a defeat at Walsall on Christmas Day, his only two appearances for The O’s. He then returned to Scotland joining East Stirlingshire in 1937, his last known senior club.
