Description

King’s Heath, Birmingham born outside left Fred Bowden began his football career with Adelaide F.C, a Midlands club, and played for Darwen of Shirebrook before joining First Division Birmingham in 1925, making his Football League debut at Tottenham Hotspur on Boxing Day 1925, his only appearance for Birmingham. He joined Aston Villa in the 1926 close season, but didn’t get to play for their first team, moving to Kidderminster Harriers later the same year.

After joining Stourbridge in 1927 he was signed by West Ham United in 1928, but again failed to progress beyond the reserves, and in May 1929 he signed for Third Division (South) club Coventry City, where, although in 1930-31 he scored 8 goals in 27 appearances, he mainly played reserve team football in 1929-30 and 1931-32, joining non league Evesham Town in 1932 after 10 goals in 43 appearances for The Sky Blues. He rejoined Kidderminster Harriers later in 1932 and spent 1932-33 at Chesterfield without playing first team football before drifting out of the game.
