Described as a player of “great versatility” and “the highest type of of generally useful club men, a great asset to any team”, and originally a winger, he played for Raith Rovers as a half back and also a centre forward among other positions. He joined Albion Rovers and played in the Albion Rovers Scottish Cup quarter final team of March 1934, drawing 1-1 with Motherwell before losing the replay 6-0 at Fir Park after unfortunately losing their goalkeeper in the days well before substitutes!
