Sunderland born outside left George “Teddy” Anderson began his football career with Sunderland Albion in 1903 and played for Sunderland Royal Rovers in 1904 before being signed by First Division Small Heath in the 1905 close season, making his Football League debut at Bolton Wanderers that October. He soon established a regular place in the first team, renamed Birmingham at the start of his second season at St Andrews.

However he lost his place in Birmingham’s first team at the start of the 1907-08 season, at the end of which they suffered relegation, and played only 21 more matches over two seasons before leaving Birmingham to join Southern League Brentford in the 1909 close season after 1o goals in 81 appearances for Birmingham. At Brentford he enjoyed three seasons as a first team regular scoring 5 goals in 88 appearances before retiring from football at the end of the 1911-12 season, probably through injury.
