Description

Falkirk, Stirlingshire born wing half John “Jack” Pray started his senior football career with Glasgow Rangers in 1894, making his Scottish League debut against St Mirren that September in a 4-3 win at Ibrox but played only 4 times through to April 1895, before heading south to join First Division Bury in the close season, his Football League debut coming at Nottingham Forest that September.

He rarely missed a game over the next 6 seasons for The Shakers, the highlight coming when Bury reached the 1900 FA Cup Final, where they beat Southern League Southampton 4-0 in the Final at The Crystal Palace, Pray having scored a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest in the semi final at The Victoria Ground, Stoke, that enabled Bury to win the tie in the replay at Bramall Lane 5 days later. He played his last game of 202 for Bury in January 1902, scoring 10 goals, before returning to Scotland later the same year to join St Bernard’s, where he later finished his career.
