Brodsworth, Yorkshire born full back Charlie Gellatly started his football career playing for junior club Norwood Rangers in 1926 and he also played for Shirebrook in 1927 before spending 1928-29 with Halifax Town, for whom he didn’t make a first team appearance. After returning to Shirebrook, he spent 1930-31 on the books of Leicester City but again didn’t get into their first eleven. He then joined Gillingham in June 1931 and made his debut at Luton Town that September, missing only 6 games during his debut season, but he lost a regular place in their eleven from the following September and joined non league Darenth Training Colliery in 1934 after 61 appearances for The Gills.
