Wolverhampton, Staffordshire born wing half Tommy Langford has the unusual distinction of only ever scoring 3 career goals, all of which came in his first three senior appearances. He joined Second Division Wolverhampton Wanderers from Bargoed Town in May 1914 and initially played as a centre forward, he made a scoring debut as a forward at Clapton Orient in a 1-1 draw that September, following that up with strikes against Derby County and Lincoln City. He played four more games for Wolves that autumn before losing his place, whereafter the First World War intervened and his Wolves career was over.
On resumption of peacetime football he joined Stalybridge Celtic in 1919, moving to newly elected Third Division (South) club Swindon Town in May 1920, and he played in their inaugural Football League fixture, a 9-1 thrashing of Luton Town in August 1920. His two seasons at The County Ground saw him make 45 appearances, including 29 in the inaugural season, before he moved to Halifax Town in July 1922. He played 29 times for The Shaymen in 1922-23 before moving to non league Chapel-en-le-Frith, and later Hyde United, during 1923, before his eventual retirement.
