Description

Kilsyth, Lanarkshire born goalkeeper John Patrick began his football career with Grangemouth from where he joined Falkirk in 1891, spending a year with The Bairns before a move to St Mirren in 1892. In February 1895 he was selected to represent The Scottish League, playing as they won 4-1 against The Irish League in Belfast. In November 1896 he went on trial to Everton and made his Football League debut, and only appearance for The Toffees, in a 6-0 win over Burnley the same month, being one of four goalkeepers used by Everton that season.

He then returned to St Mirren and won two full caps for Scotland in the 1897 Home Championship, winning his first cap in a 2-2 draw with Wales at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham in March, also playing in a 2-1 win over England at The Crystal Palace at the start of the following month. He once again was selected for The Scottish League, playing in a 5-0 win over The Irish League at Carolina Port, Dundee in January 1898. He retired in May 1901 after 171 matches for The Buddies.
