Description

Trimdon Grange, County Durham born winger Tommy Mitchell began his football career with local junior club Trimdon Grange in 1921, joining Third Division Hartlepools United in 1922 and making his Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue in March 1923. After scoring once in 35 appearances he joined Second Division Stockport County in the summer of 1924, and was an ever present in his debut season at Edgeley Park, and in February 1926 he was bought by First Division Blackburn Rovers after 13 goals in 69 appearances for The Hatters.

His best season at Blackburn Rovers proved to be 1927-28, when he scored 19 goals in 32 appearances, including 4 in 4 earlier round FA Cup ties in Blackburn’s march to the FA Cup Final, but he didn’t play in either the semi final or in the Final as Blackburn beat Huddersfield Town 3-1. He lost his place in the side the following season, making only 12 more appearances, before joining Lincoln City in the summer of 1929 after 31 goals in 82 appearances for Rovers. However the move to Sincil Bank was not a success, and he made only 3 first team appearances in September 1929 before joining non league Horden Colliery Welfare in 1930.
