Smethwick, Birmingham born inside right Harry Davis started his football career with Summer Hall in 1888 and Birmingham St George’s in 1889, for whom he had played in three rounds (proper) of the FA Cup in 1889 before they lost at Preston North End, before joining First Division Sheffield Wednesday in 1892, making his Football League debut at Notts County in September 1892. He won the FA Cup with Wednesday in 1896 as they beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in the Final at The Crystal Palace but he left Hillsborough after Wednesday were relegated to the Second Division in 1899 having scored 41 goals in 184 appearances.
