Description

Darvel, Ayrshire born centre half James Wishart began his football career with Darvel Juniors from where he joined First Division club Kilmarnock in 1905, making his Scottish League debut at Partick Thistle in January 1906. scoring his first goal in a defeat at St Mirren that May in his seventh match. The next season he was more regular and scored once more in a defeat at Port Glasgow Athletic in 16 further appearances for Killie before a move to North Eastern League club Carlisle United in the 1907 close season. A regular for The Cumbrians over the next two seasons, he attracted the First Division scouts and was signed with team mate Alfred Robinson by First Division club Sheffield United in April 1909.

Wishart made his Football League debut in a defeat at Bradford City in October 1909, and had to wait until April 1910 to have his second outing in a defeat at Blackburn Rovers. But he was released at the end of the season, and rejoined Carlisle United in the summer of 1910, albeit his second spell at Brunton Park didn’t last too long, joining Haslingden later that year. He joined Halifax Town in 1913, his last recorded club.
