Description

Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire born inside right George Wild began his football career with Sowerby Bridge Institute and played for Yorkshire Combination club Halifax Town from 1911, from where he was signed by First Division club Bradford City, for whom he made his Football League debut against Derby County in January 1914. He scored on his only other outing for The Bantams in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Valley Parade that April, but was released in the 1914 close season and re-joined Halifax Town, now playing in the Midland League. His career was then interrupted the onset of the First World War, but after the War he returned to The Shay and when Halifax Town were elected to join the new Football League Third Division (North), Wild scored twice in 13 matches in their inaugural League season before retiring from the game.
