Description

Morpeth, Northumberland born inside right Billy Relph (he could also play on either wing) began his football career after the First World War with Seaton Delaval in 1919 and Blyth Spartans in 1920, from where he joined newly elected Third Division (North) club Ashington in June 1921, making his Football League debut at Grimsby Town that September. Lightly used in his debut season with 7 starts, he scored 9 goals in 21 matches during Ashington’s 1922-23 campaign before returning to the fringe in 1923-24, and after 14 goals in 34 appearances he joined Third Division (South) club Brentford in July 1924.

He scored once in 8 appearances for The Bees during the first half of 1924-25 before a return to north east non league football with Blyth Spartans, later playing for Morpeth Church Institute in 1930, Pegswood United in 1931 and Morpeth Town in 1933 before his eventual retirement.
