Mickley, Northumberland born winger Robert Hepple signed for First Division Bradford City from Mickley in May 1920 making his Football League debut against Bolton Wanderers in February 1921. However in May 1921, after only 3 appearances for The Bantams, he joined Division 3 (South) Reading, making 20 appearances for The Royals in 1921-22 before returning to Mickley. He then joined Ashington in June 1923, scoring his only League goal at Accrington Stanley in October 1923 and playing 10 games before returning to non league football. However his League career was briefly revived when he re-joined Ashington as an amateur in March 1928, playing twice for them that month at Chesterfield and Tranmere Rovers, before another return to Mickley.
