Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Northumberland born outside left Alex Crombie began his football career with Morpeth Harriers before joining Southern League club Reading in 1904, where he played for a season. He then signed for Second Division club Burslem Port Vale in the 1905 close season, making his Football League debut at Lincoln City the same September, scoring his only goal on his home debut in a 4-3 win over Chesterfield Town the following week. In all he played 19 matches for Vale through to February 1906 and his career having left the Cobridge Athletic Ground is uncertain.
