Description

Dunston-on-Tyne, County Durham born outside right Ernest Kidd played for local league club Scotswood before the First World War, and after the War he joined Newcastle United on amateur forms in October 1919, spending the 1919-20 season with the club without appearing for their first eleven while also playing for Dunston Atlas Villa. In August 1920 he joined Bolton Wanderers and spent nearly two seasons at Burnden Park without getting a chance in their first team, before signing for Third Division (North) Wigan Borough in March 1922, making his Football League debut against Lincoln City the same month.

He made 29 appearances for Wigan in just over a year at Springfield Park, but was released in the summer of 1923 and returned to the north east, joining Ashington in June of that year.  He made 30 appearances during 1923-24 as Ashington finished a creditable 8th in the Third Division (North), but was again on the move at the end of the season, joining North Eastern League club Workington, his last known senior club before his eventual retirement.
