Description

Monkwearmouth, Sunderland born centre half George Wyness began his football career with Tyzacks in 1925 and played for Jarrow in 1926 and Houghton Colliery Welfare in 1927. After an unsuccessful trial with Leicester City he joined Scottish League Falkirk in 1928 before joining Third Division (North) Southport in August 1929, making his Football League debut at York City the next month. He had four seasons at Haig Avenue, making 97 appearances before joining Chester in July 1933. However he was a fringe player at Sealand Road making only 9 appearances for them in 1933-34, and he joined Rochdale in June 1934.

He spent two seasons as a regular for ‘Dale, making 72 appearances before joining Notts County in May 1936, but after playing in their opening 8 fixtures he lost his place and played only twice more for them in a season that saw The Magpies narrowly miss out on promotion, finishing as runners up in the Third Division (North). He joined Gateshead in August 1937 but returned to non league football with former club Jarrow later the same year before he’d made an appearance for The Head, and ended his career with Jarrow before the Second World War.
