Description

Tinsley, Yorkshire born inside forward Cyril Woods began his football career with Steel Products in 1934 and joined First Division Bolton Wanderers in August 1935, making his debut in an FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in January 1936, scoring in a 1-1 draw. He played in the replay at Burnden Park which Bolton lost 1-0, but never played a League match for The Trotters, spending two seasons in the reserves. Having joined Third Division (South) Swindon Town in May 1937, he made his Football League debut against Watford in September 1937, but made only 4 appearances for The Robins before joining Hartlepools United in July 1938.

Despite ‘Pools having a very poor season, Woods scored 7 goals in 26 appearances and did well enough that in May 1939 he was signed by Hull City, however he hadn’t played for Hull by the time that the Second World War broke out in September 1939, the War effectively ending his career.
