Description

Sheffield born inside right Walter Winnell began his football career with Park Labour in 1927 and joined Luton Town in 1928, without making their first eleven. He moved to Third Division (South) Bristol Rovers in 1929, where he made his Football League debut at Clapton Orient in April 1930, scoring his only goal in 4 appearances five days later as Rovers lost 2-1 at Queen’s Park Rangers. In the summer of 1930 he moved to Chesterfield but he failed to get into their very strong team, which won the Third Division (North) Championship at the end of the season, and he moved to Midland League Grantham before the year end, subsequently transferring to join Wombwell in 1931, his last recorded club.
