Ormskirk, Lancashire born centre half Edward Winn played in wartime league football for Liverpool during the First World War, making 4 appearances for The Reds in 1915-16, and after the War he was at South Liverpool in 1920 before joining new Football League Third Division (North) club Tranmere Rovers in 1921. He made his Football League debut in their match at Accrington Stanley on 28th January 1922, which Rovers lost 3-0 and this would prove his only Football League appearance.
