Full back or wing half Iorwerth Williams began his football career with Southern League Merthyr Town before joining Second Division Lincoln City in the 1932 close season with three other Merthyr players. Described as “worthily recommended as a left half” he made his Football League debut on the last day of the 1932-33 season in a 6-0 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue, and had to wait until November 1934, by when Lincoln had been relegated into the Third Division (North), for his next appearance, in a 1-1 home draw with Crewe Alexandra in November 1934, playing at right back. He made a final League appearance later that season at wing half in a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in March 1935, before being released that summer.
