He stayed at Burnden Park for three more seasons before joining Midland League York City in 1914 after 88 appearances for The Trotters, and after the First World War he had a brief spell in Irish League football with Shelbourne, before returning to England to join Fleetwood. In 1920 he joined Halifax Town, and in September 1921 he returned to Football League action with Rochdale, playing 3 times for them in their inaugural League season that autumn before his retirement.
