Description

Bristol born centre half Ray Warren began his football career with Parson Street Old Boys in 1934, but would spend his entire professional football career with Third Division (South) Bristol Rovers. He signed professional for the club in November 1935, at the age of 17, and made his Football League debut on 14th March 1936 against Queen’s Park Rangers. his only appearance of the season. He became a regular in The Pirates’ line up from August 1937 and had made 76 appearances by the time the Second World War forced the abandonment of peacetime football in September 1939, causing considerable disruption to his career.

After the Second World War he became club captain, being ever present in five of the first seven post war seasons, and winning the Third Division (South) Championship with Rovers in 1952-53. He finished his career with three seasons in the Second Division, retiring in 1956 having spent twenty years with the Eastville club, scoring 30 goals in 490 appearances. He is 7th in the all time Bristol Rovers appearance list, which he would probably lead but for the Second World War.
